Welcome to Emilie for her internship with Novabiom

Welcome to Emilie for her internship with Novabiom

Emilie is a Master's student at the agronomic engineering school AgroParistech. She specializes in "Produce and Innovate in Plant Technical Systems" (PISTv). Originally from Valence (26), she arrived at our Champhol (28) site on March 1st for a six-month internship.

Novabiom, a driving force in the miscanthus sector in France, is a partner of the MisTigation project and primarily focuses on the work packages related to local communities. Therefore, it was agreed that Novabiom would be responsible for mapping priority areas in Hauts-de-France and, additionally, for writing a guide for local communities on miscanthus projects involving both a miscanthus grower and a local stakeholders.

Indeed, miscanthus is a crop that offers strong ecosystem services for local communities, particularly by protecting water resources in drinking water catchment areas and enabling the development of local bioeconomies.

Ainsi, nous avons eu le plaisir d'accueillir Emilie Skowron dans le cadre de son stage de fin d'études au cours duquel elle poursuit trois objectifs :

Thus, we had the pleasure of welcoming Emilie Skowron for her final-year internship, during which she will pursue three objectives:
  • Inventory and prioritize ecosystem services offered by miscanthus, particularly for local communities.
  • Map the boundaries of drinking water catchment areas and favorable pedological zones for miscanthus cultivation in the Hauts-de-France region in order to overlay them and identify areas where local communities might be more receptive to the development of this crop. This task requires the use of GIS software, especially QGIS.
  • Organization of a survey to analyze ongoing projects involving both miscanthus growers and local communities across France, in order to gather a wide range of testimonies. The analysis aims to identify the obstacles and enabling factors encountered by local communities when implementing such projects. Based on this, she will identify the key success factors and determine the most appropriate forms of miscanthus valorization — both in terms of implementation by local communities and with regards to environmental considerations.

Emilie already joined us at the International Agricultural Show last March: https://www.novabiom.com/salon-international-de-lagriculture-2023/
